Ive got an idea for breeding my mottled d'uccle hen.. i have a mottled houdan roo coming and already have my d'uccle hen, was wondering if i could breed them or if the size difference is too much? im trying to get a feather footed crested out of them but not sure if i can breed the two together since the houdan tops out at about 8+ lbs.. :-/ Any thoughts? I tried posting a new thread but no replies so i figured id ask you guys seeing as though youve already got the d'uccles and everything, hoping someone here knows if i can do this or not..

wegotchickens...here are your babies, I took pics of them in the playpen with your silkie babies

Lori, do you think the Milles are small for 2 months old? They hatched on June 5th, Esma was the one who rode up in your lap.

My Porcelains from NellaBean, they are around 4 months old I believe

D'Uccle roo over houdan hen would work, but IMO your roo will probably injure and/or traumatize you d'Uccle hen.

If you want a crested, feather footed, get a sultan

Or a silkie. Most of the crested crosses I've hatched of my own don't have very attractive crests, or their leg feathering only comes up the side. You could do a bantam sultan/d'uccle cross! But still it's crest would seem funky. For example: My spitzhauben/d'uccle crosses:

I should add, out of a porcelain rooster and a spitzhauben hen, the black and gold chicks were female, and the black and white chicks were male. Sex-link

Ok I need some help in identifying!!!! We got 2 roo's the other night the one I'm almost thinking is Citron but is supposed to be Mottled, he's mottled but his hackles and saddles are comming out a pretty yellowish lemon color. Theres not a great deal of it but it seems to be getting more prominent. He's not getting corn so I know it's not that.

Anybody wanting d'uccles in the east tennessee area, I'm bringing 4 pair of Porcelain D'uccles, 1 pair of white d'uccles and 1 trio of gold neck d'uccles to the Madisonville swap.

TsaLaGi- I don't know what they are. That first roo is interesting could possibly be a citron or mixed maybe. The second roo, I personally would not breed or keep if you are serious at all about d'uccles due the the fact he has wattles and no legs foot feathering.

This is the BIG deal in the d'uccle world:

Big, fluffy beards
NO wattles or just a tiny little red where wattles should be
vulture hocked- the feathers that grow out long on the lower part of the leg, below the knee above the ankle
Feathered lower legs and toes including the middle/main toe in a sweeping pattern out to the side
when standing erect, the mature d'uccle roo should have a "V" shape between the tail, back and hackle feathers.

No, they look just right! The sillkies are a week older, and the proportions mirror what I've seen when raising silkies with d'Uccles.
I remember little Esma. She hatched that very morning before we left and was quite a snuggle-bug. I'm glad she found someone to give her the snuggling she requires LOL.

Bear in mind that Nella's d'Uccles are hatchery and mine are heritage. Hatchery birds seem to be a bit bigger than my heritage birds no matter what color.

TsaLaGi, if your mottled roo has been outdoors then he may have some yellowing due to sun exposure. Check and see how the newer feathers are coming in.
