D'uccle Thread

This morning

It was a perfect morning and the birds came off the roost all amped up!!! My seabright roo flew off the roost and landed on my roof!!! He caught some major air and then couldnt figure out how to get off the roof, he was waaayyyyyy up there, lol, always get a kick out of watching them at sunrise.

I have been looking for hatching eggs or day old chicks for Golden Neck, Porcelain and White. Ideal Poultry has white and porcelain but I can't do the hatch they have available as I will not be home to get the delivery. Ideal does have some pretty good birds as my Mille Fleur Cockeral took Best in Show and the judge, Ben Porter of KY, was surprised he was a hatchery bird.

You got lucky wih that one then:) I wouldn't depend on a hatchery for that. I no anything other than a Mille is difficult to find. I was looking for something dif cuz milles are so popular but no luck finding so had to start from eggs with BLK/blu mottled:). Hopefully by fall I'll have my flock sorted out. I will maybe have a pair or 2 to sell in the fall. I have about 10 BLK Mott but will prob only keep 5 or 6.

My d'uccle hen is very shy, I am hoping that she will start to warm up soon. Right now whenever I come near the chicken enclosure she runs into the coop, or if I actually go into the enclosure she will run and hide behind my buff orp.

Are you looking for pure black though? Mine are black mottled. I got the eggs off eBay. It was the blue & black mottled add. So far they are looking really nice, full beards and super foot feathering:) same age as that "quail" looking Mille of mine. I'll have to post pics sometime soon.

yea pure black...i like the blue mottled color. i manged to get a pair of golden necks from ideal although im not expecting to great birds if they are anything like my blue boy they should be ok-great looking birds. i am having trouble telling weather my mille and blue mille are pullets or not they have small combs and are 9 weeks and 5 weeks and the color of their combs goes from pale at night to light red during the day so im not sure on them. compared to my golden neck cockerel their combs are a lot smaller than his.

I

I dont usually post over here, but I have a question, that maybe you can help.

I have a Beautiful Gold Neck Booted Bantam, and a White D'uccle hen. Yesterday 3 chicks hatched. I am posting a picture, any idea what color they will be?

All of them have beard and muffs, 2 are identical, but one seems a little more golden then the others who are really a light yellow, almost white .

The d'uccle is here only to keep the goldneck company, until I can find him a goldneck.

Here is a (bad) cell phone photo of D'Uccle girl. She doesn't have much white and I'm wondering if she will gain more as she matures. (The red that looks like it is in her tail is actually a mango peel..lol)

She will definitely get more white, in time. And it's better that she is getting it slowly. With every molt she will get more white on her, so a lot of white at an early age is actually a bad sign. It makes it hard to sell young millies, since they look like boring little brown birds with just a few spots....
