D'uccle Thread

Yikes, I seem to have driven everyone off this thread!

Well, taking the chance that I'm just talking to myself, I have yet another question. What size leg bandettes do the d'Uccles wear? Put another way, what is the measured size of the band - something like 9/16? I've searched the web several times and am not finding anything definitive.

Hello? oh? oh? oh?.......
I use the largest size of spiral band available. Iuse the un-numbered kind until show season, and then switch to the numbered kind if the "make the cut" and hit the show circuit. I keep them in different brooders until they get old enough for the foot feathers to keep the band on. For the little ones, I slide the band on like a bracelet. Later, you have to unwind them off, but once you get practiced at it, that's no big deal and you can re-use the bands. I can get the info off the box of the kind with numbers, but not until later today.

Today, I am taking my teenager to a matinee of the musical "Sweeney Todd" at a local theatre. It was decided that we should dress slightly steampunky, so now I need to make sure I have the correct accessories lol.

Thank you for the information! I wondered about starting with the spiral type. And thanks in advance for the size of the numbered bands, as I did read they are needed for shows.

I am trying to learn about showing requirements for next year so I can start showing the little beauties off around here. I went to a local fair and not one d'Uccle was there, and the woman in charge really had no idea what kind of chicken I was talking about, even after describing them.

You sound like a very awesome mom! My son would have been too embarrassed to let me do that, lol! Perhaps it's because I have a tendency to dress up in "interesting" ways all the time...

Sorry, it was raining when we got home, so the birds got a very cursory visit and I didn't open the can I use to store leg bands in at all. Will try again tomorrow....

My daughter is almost 6 feet tall, and always dresses more strangely than me, which is saying a LOT. The show was awesome, though, and she loved it

I have some questions as this is the first "true" D'Uccle breeding I have done. I had 3 pairs of Millies, collected 7 eggs for my incubator. The hatch happened last night. Of the 7 eggs my mix is perplexing. I have 2 that look like typical Millie chicks. I have one that is black, one that is pale yellow, one that is buttery yellow and one that looks like a striped chipmunk with eyeliner. I thought breeding millies would make more millies......WHERE are these colors coming from??? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
