D'uccle Thread

Ok. One of the daddies is my Avatar.

This is one of the mommas:

And here are the babies....WHERE does all the color variations come from???

I am very interested in seeing what all these will come out to be. I had a quad of decent looking Milles and bred them only with each other and got 90% normal Mille coloring and a couple lighter colored ones. I only kept one and sold the rest at about 2 weeks of age but the one I kept looks to be a "blue quail" pattern. Obviously not a recognized D'uccle color but shes one of the prettiest I have besides my blue mottled:)!

I bred my new cockeral to to an incomplete columbian blue hen and got all millies. All are blue except the darkest one, he'll be just millie. There is a lighter, littler one in the group and not sure how she'll color out, but all in all, pretty stable color.

Lol, oops! I have turkeys and ducks too and always forget which is lilac and which are lavender and selfblue.

She's pretty and silvery too. Maybe it's just the lavender chickens with softer feathering I'm not as impressed with because it doesn't come out so glossy? I like her color, it matches my turkeys.

That turkey is absolutely gorgeous!

Does anyone know what happened to the Shagbark Bantam d'Uccles? They seemed to have some of the best looking birds I can find on the web, but apparently aren't selling them anymore. I drool over the pictures of the birds they had...

I love this guy! I just ordered my d'uccles from ideal, since I wanted to go with something easy and unexpensive to make sure I liked them before diving in, lol. Ordered blue mille hoping to get one like him, but pretty sure all mine are regular mille. I'm already planning on getting more in spring now.

They are such neat little chickens.

Thank you for posting the photos...I've been wondering how Lavender really differed from Self-Blue and Porcelain (ugh, I can't spell it without spell check). They kind of look Porcelain but with some tan/brown at the shoulders (that part might be the Milli coming thru however).

Now I'm confused. I thought self blue/lavender were the same thing and porcelain is lavender mille fleur?
