His neck seems worse. Totally limp. I gave him some medicated water by eye dropper. But I suspect he won't make it through the night. Thanks for the well wishes. Darn.
Sorry he doesn't seem to be getting better. I hope he surprises everyone and improves overnight. His neck seems worse. Totally limp. I gave him some medicated water by eye dropper. But I suspect he won't make it through the night. Thanks for the well wishes. Darn.
On a happier note, some d'Uccle shipped eggs plus a bunch of my own eggs are ready to hatch now, and I'm hearing cheeps! I'm almost a first-time chicken mother!I hope this doesn't qualify as counting chickens before they hatch...![]()
Update on gold neck--this morning
I thought for sure he would be dead, but he wasn't this morning. I have him on a towel next to the baby box. When I went in to check on everybody, he was standing with his head hanging down, but he was able to lift it and give me a few noises. So I grabbed some vitamin e's, the Sav-a-chick mix and some ground up food and fed him by eyedropper. He was able to pick his head up somewhat, turn it, and eat. his head isn't as floppy as it was yesterday, but his poor tummy sure is hungry! His next treat in a half hour is some yogurt. yum yum!
Update on GN this afternoon--
Gave him a bath and kept feeding his mash. He is now in the back yard, standing and cleaning his feathers! He's twisting all different ways with his neck. He still requires a lot of naps and his head does get tired trying to hold it up, but it's staying up longer and longer. He is going to live!
It just goes to show you, the healing powers of these chickens is miraculous.
DON'T PUT THEM OUT OF THEIR MISERY RIGHT AWAY....THERE'S HOPE!

Would an impure silver with gold leakage work? Is a blue buff really buff? Reason i ask is i bred my silver EE roo to a blue-buff hen, and i have some mysterious pale buff and blue chicks, looks almost like a porcelain, but there's black in their baby fuzz and i know it's a blue. The other ones came out with red and gold feathering, these 2 are so pale........... So pretty though! You need either the dilute gene, Di, or the gold gene, Ig or the silver gene, S. So you can try to bring the cream dilute gene by crossing with a cream brown dutch, or even some of the buffs. The buffs are usually an unknown factor. Some can be just buffs, but other can carry the mahoghany gene with a dilute to make it look buff. Lavender wouldn't work on a mille fleur because it dilutes EVERYTHING. I'm going to try a cross with a Citron Spangled Hamburg banty- I'm waiting for the eggs now. I also noticed that some of my chicks that came out of a d'uccle/buff silky cross are showing promising colors. There's just no telling what is in those buff genes. So if you see a unique colored buff, maybe use that bird. Did you ever notice that some mille fleurs fade and others don't? i'll bet there's a different make-up for those two buffs.
