We are looking to get on a list for spring for some show quality Millie d'uccle eggs. We will not need them until returning from a trip at the beginning of April but would like to get on a list for some now if possible. Thanks

There's no such thing as a show quality egg. Even show quality birds can throw pet quality. They only way to guarantee show quality is to purchase them as nearly adults. That's the only way to tell feather coloration, besides the other qualities. Most d'uccles don't have show color until sometimes as long as a year old.
You also take quite a chance trying to hatch mailed eggs. The post office is quite rough with packages and the yolks can get scrambled, etc.

Got to agree. I've only had so-so success with shipped eggs but about 95% with my own so I know my incubation methods are correct. Show quality, to me, is hard to determine before a bird is 6 months old (many times later). With milles and other patterned birds, the color can change a lot in a month's time. I'm holding onto my mottle and mille chicks longer before deciding what to keep and sell because of this.

How long do you hold on to your chicks before you sell them? I am in the process of trying to get some show quality birds for fair in August. I have hatched a little more than 2 dozen. I don't want to be over run with chickens come spring time.

I'm going to keep these probably anywhere from 6 to 9 months.

Hi so I have a pair of lavender de anvers can I breed these to black de anvers? What would I get?

All chicks should be black. Black is usually dominant.

I usually hold on to them for about the same as Gagirly. Some you can tell early, like my Welp millie chicks have HUGE pockets of nothing but white coming in. Covers almost their entire back. Pretty disappointing...
