I feel pretty stupid at this point...I caught one of the Bantam Cochin X Standard EE Cockerel jump on her back trying to do the hanky panky. At this point, I'm going to assume this behavior has been going on for a while. Between the Cockerel I put down and the D' yesterday, I separated the last D' and raising her with the Standard Cochin pullet that is a week younger so the possible thing won't happen to her in with the other litter mates. She is my only SQ St Cochin out of 10 chicks (or at this point in time).
Thank you for your support, I do appreciate it.
For my chicks I use a medicated mash from Blue Seal, then I up them to Blue Seal game bird crumbles. Once my birds get to 12-17 weeks (layers) they go onto Layena crumbles from Purina and large birds will go to pellets and Bantams will go to Layena crumbles, again from Purina.
All of my adult birds receive oyster shells & grit when they want it, also yogurt, fresh fruits and veggies in summer, and in winter I use what we have preserved by freezing or frozen bought veggies and fruits. We also grow wheat grass for our cats and the chickens get a handful of fine cut greens in their hot mash in winter. By summer, they rotate the change in house's so they can have the super large pen to run, romp and dust bath in.
We do spoil my birds and try to give them as natural of a life as we can. In the mean time, they are living in community area (only have 2 MF hens and 1 porcelain roo at this point in time.)
Great questions, hope I have "re-deemed" myself- lol. Still bummed over MF eggs, will be recieving another batch of eggs this week. I hope they come out better! I learned a valuable lesson, don't trust your birds in fall to reproduce. And I honestly don't want to say anything negative about MPC. Only spring fresh eggs!!! Oh, and the state Poultry Tech told me that if it was a virus they probably wouldn't find it and I have ruled out Mereks and Botulism. Of course I said that at a poultry meeting once and was jumped on because its not a common occurance here in the North East ( I say why not!?!?!?).
Thank you so much for helping me out!!!
