D'uccle Thread

What's the purpose of putting all your time money and energy into producing mutt chickens? Just curious. quote name="dorothymcd" url="/t/269521/duccle-thread/9540#post_12782029"][COLOR=000080]Here are my D'Uccle Silkie Hybrids babies and teens. I like mutts, personally. All breeds started with them at one point; all mine are mutts except my d'uccle. I'm breeding my own personal flock ("mutts") that in 30 years i will be working toward making into my own breed.

My d'uccle roo ended up being spurless at 2+years, so he will God willing be a key in the program.

Everyone has their own purposes!

Because we are a bunch of friendly folk who like to show off our chickens. LOL I've got 4 porcelain d'uccle girls and 1 polish white crested blue bantam. If I ever find a porcelain rooster, I'll hatch out the polish eggs too, just to see what kind of top knot-feather legged chickies I get. Some of the results of "puccles" (polish-d'uccle), "silcles" (silkie-d'uccle), and whatever other combos have been made can be quite cute. The d'uccles are for one son's enjoyment, and the polish is for the other son (had more but they didn't make it). We don't belong to 4-H, the potential diseases out there make me too scared to attend poultry shows (the hatchery stock I assume have been vaccinated but what I've hatched at home I know have had no vaccinations), and we don't sell eggs/chicks for profit.

Thanks for all the info! The roo has feathered legs but the hen doesn't. The man that gave them to us just said they're "banty" chickens.
