D'uccle Thread

Why would you do that. You couldn't give him away free. Not trying be accusing, I just don't under stand. I'm lucky I guess, my BF will kill ill or mamed birds and I give the Amish unwanted roo's. I won't just put a bantam in a tree. Was he sick?

No, HE was a huge Australorp and was mounting my tiny banties.

I couldn't have him doing that or his size might have damaged my tiny hens. I tried craigslist list and here, no takers--I was giving him away. I even tried to pen him in, but he escaped from my not finished pen. I have no Amish running around here, and not many want to kill my birds for me, so into the back country he went. I just couldn't kill him because he was mounting ALL the birds instead of his full-sized girls. This is why I'm terrible at farming, there has to be a reason to kill, and I didn't have a good enough one.

Looks like a khaki, but I THOUGHT I only had roos with dun. Everywhere I look, they say this chick down color is khaki, duck wing type feathering when a mature. I'm trying to bring the dun gene into d'uccles. this first batch is showing great color, but they've lost their beards and vulture hocks.
