D'uccle Thread

You aren't stupid because I have a question too and I am not stupid...I just need help with chickens! LOL!
So...I have heard D'Uccle also written D'uccle and d'uccle. Which is really correct please? I have been told by 3 different people that raise large #'s of D'uccles... not on here and some show... that my pronunciation is wrong. Is it pronouncde dew clay' (which is how I was pronoiuncing it), dew seal', dew' cull, dew oo' cull??? and since mille fleur is a color and not a breed it should start with lower case letters?
There was a link, probably at the beginning, but I'm having trouble finding it...it pronounced the name of the city that this breed is named after and all you have to add is the "d" sound at the beginning of it.

I know when I first read the word, I think duk-lll, but if I speak it, I say doo klay

On a personal note, I purchased some Mille d'Uccles and am unsure of what development the hens will have. I'm returning one roo (in a previous post someone mentioned they both were roos) and looking for a similar pullet and want to know what to look for. I simply want a pair, to hatch my own. Not to show or anything. And I sell a chick to my neighbor that thinks they are cute I'd like to know if they are d'Uccles or some mutt that I was suckered into buying. I'm excited for the beards, but if they don't have them are they still d'Uccles? I was on a waiting list for Bearded D'Anvers and they never came so this is what I found locally to satisfy my beard envy. (Plus I love fluffy footed breeds.)

Ok, so I bought my first Mille Fleur D'uccles! And they are between 2-3 weeks old (I've had for 1 week and they had some development when I bought them the day before Easter) They were hatched in incubators where I bought them.

I'm really hoping for a pair....but....

This one is definitely a roo, but how fast and what does a hen's comb look like at 2 weeks old?

Here they are side by side

Obviously a roo...at 3 weeks (today)

Bird # 2 has zero reddish tint and much less of a comb development. (I can only compare to my obvious roo and americauna bantams that have zero combs so far too) Does any development at all make her a he?
Any other thoughts? Again, I'm planning to return one and hope to buy another one that is a pullet but I don't want to pick out another roo! Should hens have zero comb growth at 3 weeks old?

I only have 7 D'Uccles lol. Not much to downsize on. I have decided to keep my D'Uccles because I love them too much to sell them. We have giant Brahmas so I at least have 4 Brahmas. I just wish for some bantams. Oh well! The D'Uccles are just too cute!

That is a very hard decision and one you must ultimately decide for your self. Anyway What ever you decide be sure to pray about it with your spouse and make the decision together. You Will come to the right one and then be willing to accept that choice which you will have made with the blessings of God.
