A natural treatment for lice/mites you can do for your roo is to give him a bath in warm soapy, salty water (I used about 1/2 a box of baking soda in about 4 gallons of water and treated approx. 15 lf birds + 3 d'uccles) and rinse well (you can even use vinegar in the rinse water). I did that a while back when I didn't have money for "hard" stuff. It gave me time until I could buy chemicals. You might have to treat for more than two weeks using "softer" methods, but I think it worked for me. Hopefully it'll work for you ill boy.

I have to agree with you... In my opinion the first thing to do is give him a bath, then I would treat his pen with seven dust (If Necessary) and Adams Flea&Tick spray. Spray:Under Wings, Hackle feathers, saddle feathers, hock feathers and vent. That way your bird is good to go the bath should drown most of them, if he ever gets "Scaly Leg Mites" use Vaseline.(Suffacates the mites)

, I wish I would have know about the soapy salt water treatment. With my Cream Legbar he was very sick when I got him, But got better in about 30 days.

Thanks for the soapy water idea, i might do that. Tonight he'll get the DE to get things started. He's been living in a medium dog kennel in my kitchen, so a tad eeked out! My house will get bombed soon when i have a day to take all the birds out for the whole day. I don't relish the idea of getting bitten in the night! He may be my house boy yet. Sleeps on an old sweater in there and chuckles at me in the morning when i get my coffee. I thought the crowing would bother the neighbors since my actual address is a trailer, and my chickens are kept at the family's just outside of town. But you can't hear it hardly at all, i'm gonna get a day off soon and i'll get to stand outside and get a good listen (I leave before 6 AM)

Hello! Just would like to introduce myself, here. I'm Tania (sounds like Tonya) and I live in central WI near the Dells. I had a trio of D'Uccles, 1 porcelean cock & 2 Mille pullets, but one of our kittens got ahold of the smallest girl and she didnt' make it. I just bought another trio yesterday, all 3 Mille's and 2 being adults already breeding at about 1 1/2 yrs old. The 3rd I think she said is a few mos old? We talked about so many of her birds I can't remember which one was which age. LOL! I got an egg from the hen already this morning and we're ticked!

But I have a question...all her chickens were free ranging and she also has Brahmas and red ones (RIR??? NH??) so I don't truely know who the father is, do I? She said these guys pretty much stick to each other and hang out together everywhere, but how long should I eat her eggs before I should be able to sell them as purebred fertile eggs? I'd hate to be gathering eggs and ship them to someone and they end up w/mixed breeds. They would not be happy campers! LOL!

Here are the girls, is it normal for the younger ones to be so brown? My other Mille girl who is also young, is brown like this one. Will these brownies develop proper coloring when they get their adult molt over? About what age do you think they should have their adult plumage and what age do they 'usually' start laying eggs?

And here's a pic of my other trio I already had from before. This was taken before we lost 1 of the girls to a cat. See how brown the girls are? Is that normal? Will they molt that out and look 'normal'??

Your Rooster looks pure, but your hens are questionable, I would wait a few more molts untill you sell as 'Pure Breds'. And aww...bad kittie, poor chickie

Wait, your more white hen is pure I think too. Just the small one...

Young Millies can be more brown like that. They should get lighter as they get older. There's a chance they won't get enough white though. You rooster looks pretty dark too. I would only breed him with a very white hen or one that has too much white.
