just stumbled upon this thread and am glad to have found it. i will be getting 10 blue mille fleur D'Uccle's next week...i think they should arrive thursday the 19th

I posted a little while back about these two, maybe five month olds. I was not sure what sex they were. One is definitely a cockerel as he has started crowing. I pretty much expected him to be. The other looks like maybe a cockerel too but has some differences. It has not crowed yet, It has very small waddles but a big and strange looking comb. The feathers on the lower back at the base of the tail feathers are short and round. The other has long pointy feathers in this area. What do you think? Are they a mix?
I also had mentioned that they were clipped in a horrible way! The cockerel had all his leg feathers cut of but they have started to grow back. I plan on letting all their feathers grow back.

This is the cockerel

This is the other. It moves so fast I can't get a very good image but maybe you can see the Back feathers

Her are both, the cockerel is on the left and "other" is on the right.

So do the "saddle feathers" not have anything to do with sex? I am new to chickens. I keep thinking they must be boys because they do play spar sometimes. I did see the known cockerel try to mount the other once but I guess that can just be a dominance thing?

It doesn't really matter if they are both boys as long as they are nice Roos! I only have three buff brahma hens though. Right now they rule the two D'uccles. If they get even a tiny bit out of line and one of the girls disciplines them. Other than that they all get along fine now.
They are just sooooo cute!

If chickens have pointed longer saddle feathers are usually roosters.
