I'm not sure if its frost bite or not. The porcelain roos both have bigger combs than him, but theirs look fine. I'm beginning to really worry he got into the Sevin Dust I treated the coop with last week. I didn't put any on the birds just the hay on bottom of coop and I fluffed it in.

Sevin dust shouldn't hurt them unless, maybe you got it in his eye or he ingested it. But I still don't see how that would affect his comb. And if you are using the powder it is pretty hard for them to ingest it, unless there is a big pile on the ground.

He decided to get in a little scuffle with the rooster in the cage next to him and bloodied his comb a little. Boys will be boys!

His comb looks a little dry, can I put Chapstick on it?

I have two bearded Roos with only three hens. The hens are brahmas. Should I rehome one Roo. They are all about 10 months old now. I want more hens but would need to build a bigger ark. I worry the two will start fighting as they get older. One to is pretty well behaved and the boss. The other can try to jump on your feet if you approach to quickly. I just shove him away and he leaves me alone.
I live in Virginia, does anyone need a Roo?

D'uccle roos really don't fight that much with each ohter, especially is reared together. You are safe keeping them both and just add to your hens.

No.I highly doubt you will have a problem, even with only 3 hens. Brahmas are pretty big, your rooster will most likley have a hard time mounting them. Even if the hens are also bantams. As long as your hens don't start to get bare backs or rooster injury each other, don't worry about it.

Hello! I am just starting out, trying to show and breed chickens. One of the breeds that really drew my attention was the D'uccles! I have 3, 1 roo and 2 hens. "Skully" the roo, "Daisy", and "Millie" the hatchery hen.

I'm wondering what everyone's opinions would be on them? If I was seriously looking into showing and breeding, what desirable aspects would I be looking for in this particular breed? The first picture is Millie, the second Daisy, and the last is Skully.






Also, does anybody have any supplement or care tips for keeping their leg feathers in good shape?

One rule I have with myself, never show hatchery quality birds. There is a huge difference between what you get from a hatchery and what is good quality. Of course as long as it is an actual breed, you can show what ever you want. The first show I ever went to I took a few hatchery birds that I had that i though looked "good", they did terrible and I felt like an idiot. After that is when I really go in to chickens. But anyways.IMO Your rooster has poor coloring and maybe he is molting, but he appears to have poor feather quality. Your hens are better. D'uccle IMO are very difficult to show, because there are always a million people who enter them and I feel have colors harder to get correct than say a white or black chicken. With the hens you could take a shot in the dark and see how they do. I would not breed these. If you find a BQ or SQ rooster I would put it with your current hens to see what you get. If you want to breed them, I would recommend figuring out what color/colors you want and find a well known breeder. Good luck!

Thank you so much! Just the first hen is from a hatchery. The roo and other hen are from a 4H family. They are only 5 months, could their feather quality and coloring improve over time? I suppose I will just give them their own little pen. I'm quite attached to them, not really sure I could part with these cute little buggers at this point.

Do you have any breeders you could recommend? Is there a D'Uccle breed association of any sort? Sorry for sounding so new and silly. I've never shown chickens before, I've just had backyard flocks and incubated some mutt eggs. I show dairy goats, but show chickens are a whole new thing to me!

Another question, moreso general-are most county fairs not sanctioned by a poultry association? We take the goats to several So. Cal fairs, many of which also hold their poultry shows the same week. Would it be beneficial to take them to a fair, or would that not really be an accurate way to tell the quality of my hens? All the calenders I've found for poultry shows in California are all way up in Nor Cal.

Thanks! The brahmas are very large but occasionally the D'Uccle's do have there way with them! More often they go for a rodeo ride and fall off! I want more hens but need to build a bigger coop.
