D'uccle Thread

Look who is feeling better.

What do y'all think about his color? 9 months old.

Thank you so much! Just the first hen is from a hatchery. The roo and other hen are from a 4H family. They are only 5 months, could their feather quality and coloring improve over time? I suppose I will just give them their own little pen. I'm quite attached to them, not really sure I could part with these cute little buggers at this point. :p

Do you have any breeders you could recommend? Is there a D'Uccle breed association of any sort? Sorry for sounding so new and silly. I've never shown chickens before, I've just had backyard flocks and incubated some mutt eggs. I show dairy goats, but show chickens are a whole new thing to me!

Another question, moreso general-are most county fairs not sanctioned by a poultry association? We take the goats to several So. Cal fairs, many of which also hold their poultry shows the same week. Would it be beneficial to take them to a fair, or would that not really be an accurate way to tell the quality of my hens? All the calenders I've found for poultry shows in California are all way up in Nor Cal.

There color might get a little better after they molt. I would have more hope for the pullets than the cockerel. I do not really have a list of well known d'uccles. I don't breed them,s o don't have much of a use keeping a tab on d'uccle breeders. I know dick horstman breeds d;uccles. He is very well known for other breeds, I don't exactly know for d'uccles, although I did refer to him a few pages back. I don't have names of anyone else. I think they have a club, but I am not a member so I don't have website or anything. I am confused by the wording on your 2nd to last question. By all means feel free to take them to a show. But every judges opinion will differ.

I agree on the white. It does seem the roos are really hard to get right. He has a really thick neck and huge chest. The Porcelain are the only d'Uccle hens I have so I will be on the look out for a dark girl to go with him.

Just joined NYC and came straight here.:) I was given this pair of little cuties and have no idea what breed they are. Total mix I think but my little roo definitely has at least some d'uccle. The little pullet doesn't have feathered legs so I'm not sure about her...any ideas? If I can just figure out how to post the picture!:/

Welcome to BYC Terri Lynn.

To post a photo look above at the row of icons. On my computer screen, it's the second row, second group, first icon. It's the one with a square in the upper left and mountains along the bottom. If I click the more/less toggle and show less icons...it's "Size" "A" "B I U" a chain link/link with x, then the photo icon (followed by video, smiley, quote and full screen icons).

Can't wait to see your d'uccle.
