D'uccle Thread

I kept mine together as well. I separated them to breeding pens and now when free ranging the d'Uccle go visit the Silkies and they tslkvthrough the wire.

They look like Porcelain booted bantams.

they are bantams just not sure of breed bought them at tsc i got 4 silkies as well

my son raises Duccles ... we just love their personality.... and he seems to do pretty well showing them usualy !!
here is just a couple of them.. one is an older rooster... and the pair is a younger pair...

He looks to be the right size, but if I were looking at him as a breeding rooster, he is too young to have so many white spangles as big as they are... they get whiter as they get older... the spngles shoudl be on EACH feather and even. just a white V at the tip... including his tail feathers.
when you look at him he should look "even" with out any white clumps
hold his wings out, his feathers should be evenly black on one side of the feather and brown on the other.... again with a white tip.. when looking at them from the back you shoudl see the tip of each feather lines up evenly with each other ... like white stair steps...

I cant tell in the picture... but MAKE sure he has LOTS of fethers on his middle toe.... thats something that once you loose in the breeding its hard to get back we have found... if they dont have good toe fethering.... we dont breed them....

breed him to hens with LOTS of beard... he looks kind of slim on the beard, good but... if bred to hens with not much, dont think he coudl fill it in for them

Well, I'm just proud as heck of him!!!!!

Plus he is a handsome fellow himself.
So nice to see a young man doing something that is very much worth being proud of.

well thank you.... he has a flock of about 25 millies, 3 call ducks, 2 mandarins, 3 blue slate turkeys, and 40 californian rabbits...
he does all the work on his own.... before school and after... I buy the feed.

As any typical "kid" I do still have to get after him about scoping poo... but as far as taking care of his barn, he does it all.
He does all of his breeding and showing. about 6 years ago Dr Patterson got him started with a pair, and since then he has been breeding his own.
He owes alot of thank yous to many of the open breeders(Dr. Patterson, Jim Grober, Ken Aho..I am sure there is more) as he corners them at EVERY show and has them go over all the birds and give him advice on whats good and whats not, and he learns SOOOO much doing that !

This is my Clara - I'm told about 3 1/2 weeks old. I keep reading about how sweet they are, but as a 'toddler', she is kind of a freak! lol I have her and a >wk old black australorp (Pepper) together, and they bonded immediately, but Clara picks on Pepper, and when I hold them, she just kind of has a spaz-out sometimes. Is this just an adjustment period? I am all for putting in the time to get a good pet, but is this a sign of just how she is going to be? I really just want a mellow bird.... Trying to decide if we should stick it out or trade her in............. (we have only had her for 3 or 4 days). Also a little concerned as we are getting a white silkie next week and plan to put them all together; what if Clara is a meanie to the new baby?
