D'uccle Thread

So i did a trade and got about 15 chickens, sight unseen. 2 are white leghorn hens, i had 5 mille fleur sadly 3 juveniles died in the first week when we had our cold snap so i only have 2 adults left, a porcelain d"uccle roo and 2 seabright hens and a confirmed roo who looks like a mille cross he is still a juvenile. I have to get pictures of all of them in good daylight so i can figure out some of the others. So the reason i'm posting is because i'm new to mille fleur and d'uccle but just wanted to check a porcelain D'uccle is the same breed as a mille fleur just a different color right? Cause i'm not sure how they had only one Porcelain with the mille fleur.

Yes, porcelain and Millie Fleur are just two of the many color variety's D'uccles come in. other colors include: Black, white, Self blue, Golden neck, and splash. I am shore there are others, I just can't think of them at the moment.

Ahh ok thanks i was thinking so.

So the next question is should i let the Porcelain Roo bred the Mille fleur so i get Porcelain or try to find some porcelain hens/pullets/hatch eggs?

If the roo is already a Porcelain doesnt that give me a better chance at porcelain chicks even with mille hens?

That is a recessive color- the babies will be millie *carrying* the porcelain (it is in tbe genes but not showing) the babies bred back to dad would have some porcelains, thus having two copies and it showing.

A porcelain hen already has a copy, you would get all porcelain then.

That makes sense i wasnt sure if porcelain was a recessive or not, i just know in ducks you can make splits but only with the drake being the color you want split. Like a Lavender muscovy drake with X will make lavender splits but a x drake with a lavender duck will not.

So my choices are bred the roo to the mille hens for splits and bred back or get some porcelain hens/pullets/eggs. Also i've seen a color called lemon mille fleur is that a true color or just something people call them? I notice i seem to have/had some that look "lemon" and then other that look mostly white with orange/russet spots.

Managed to consolidate 5 roosters and 6 hens co-existing for the winter what a great breed D'uccles are.

Can I as your opinion on combining? I have 4 roosters with 7 hens together that are about 5 mths old and have been raised together. I have another rooster with 2 hens housed separately that are a year and a half. I wanted to put them all together for the winter. Do you think it would work?

Depending on the size of the coop and temperament of your birds. If you have plenty of space then the 3 older ones picking on the younger ones will be spread out. Also adding the older ones to the coop the young ones are established to may balance the picking. Mine fought a little at first but quickly got past that. I also had a couple young ones that were hatched by my BLRW(big momma) and raised amongst the flock. I'll keep an eye on spring time though around breeding time. Not sure if they'll still be so docile towards one another.

It's a 6x8 coop with 10x10 run. I think there's enough space. All of my D'uccles are very sweet except one of my young roosters just started acting up the past couple of weeks. Pecking all the girls til they yell and he even tore a small piece off another roosters comb! Hormones starting maybe?? And thanks for your advice!
