D'uccle Thread

Well - sure - if anyone specifically gets D'Uccles - then they want the "type" but may not care about extra wattles, or no face puffs - they may like the puffs - but not care ... as the bird is still a little D'uccle

:) and hey - those of us like that are great for you show breeders to find a good place for your culls !!!!

I knew about the wattles - so when I hatched out just 3 peeps to keep a little flock going - I picked the roo without them ....

:)

Those were the answers I was looking for, thanks. With that knowledge, and a helpful PM, I know that mine are too far from SQ to really even worry about it, so I am happy with my little multi-colored family. It would take years to breed them back to form, and that's not what I got into this for. I love their look, and will still sell their chicks, I just didn't want to be asking $35 for a $15 bird. Thanks
So now that you guys know me, these are my d'uccles :)

I have a mille Fluer D'uccle bantam. She is six and a half months old. I was wondering when do they typically lay eggs? Thank you for any thoughts or responses.

this time of year they arent productive anyways, so the season will have an effect too. usually 6-8 months but out of about 15 in that age group i have only gotten an occasional egg right now-not even one a day

Thank you for your response. She is my little friend along with curly the black one. I have a standard flock of 11. So I'm not worried about her eggs. I'm just curious. How many eggs do you get on a good week and a bad week?

She's our baby!!! the one who wants to be carried all the time. I just love her breed! So smart and fun! She screams at me if I don't pay attention to her.

well how many eggs depends on a lot, since they are not bred for production it usually isnt take into account when selecting for breeding. i have some that mtch my silkies in production-so about 3 a week on a good week-zero on a bad one as i mentioned out of ~20 hens right now i get less than 1 a day. I also have a dwarf sports in my line and those tiny (about 60% normal size) usually dont lay well and stop regular laying by age 3. i have a 6 year old hen right now and am unsure if she still lays since i have her in a large group pen.

She's so sweet! She will forever have a home here eggs or not.

The big girls give us plenty if eggs.
Very interesting about egg production.
Do many of yours go broody ?

usually they require some eggs in the boxes to really go broody, some may sit for a week in an empty nest and then give up. but when i had eggs i had hens fighting over sitting on eggs and they would change boxes back and forth. unfortunately some were bad mothers and killed a few of the hatching chicks, but that also could have been a non broody and based on pecking order fights. i usually give motherhood over to silkies and i am getting LF cochins to help out this year. i have however had duccle moms in the past that hatched their own chicks and then i gave them more to watch when they were a little older . one hen had 18 3 week olds sleeping with her in a cat box, unfortunately i lost almost all to wet fowl pox that year.
