Awwww................
I'm so sorry about your loss. I know nothing can really replace a favorite pet, but those two sure are sweet.

Hello everyone,

I have six chicks that I bought over a month age from Fancbrd4me02 in the north SD area. I am really enjoying watch them grow. I have three porcelain and three lavender, one of the lavender chicks is already shomwing signs of being a rooster. His comb is larger than the others and his wattles have started to grow. At what age will I hear cooca-doole-do ? Next visit I will post pictures.

I will! My four little porcelain hens have been outdoing themselves since I've had the heat lamp on for my Halloween chicks. Mine are mostly hatchery stock, and I've been having approx 85% fertility rates from Dec to Feb. I do have a hen and a rooster in my flock that are 'declawed' on one set of matching toes, and I haven't separated them out, so they are still in the breeding pool. Also, Ugly Duckly auctions porcelain eggs and I have three I hatched from her eggs which are really pretty.

I was able to tell by 4 weeks the sex of mine...love that! My 4 month old cockerel is not crowing yet at 4 months.

I have him and 3 girls, he sure takes his duties seriously though! Today I had them out of their run for a little bit (normally I don't let them free range...too many hawks) and my sweet EE came over to see what was going on and he flogged her! My poor EE didn't know what to do so finally she just kinda stepped on him and walked away! Very funny, none were hurt...

I have some that were hatched on Christmas, and one of the three boys is crowing already. I could tell by 4 weeks old who was king and who was queen! It was so cute, I walked in to the coop today to collect eggs, and one of my Halloween d'uccles. flew up on my shoulder like 'MAMA'! Then one of my older hens was like 'Pet me too!' and jumped on my arm. Next thing you know, one of my Milles from Halloween is patiently waiting, looking for a spot to jump on me. They all got adored for a few minutes. This is why I have a hooded 'chicken smock'.

Thank you for your answer. Here is another question. Like I said there are six. 2 seem to be from one week, 2 from the next and 2 last ones from the third sucessive week
from each pair one is lavender and the other porcelain. The one with the bigest comb and wattle formation is lavender but lately seems to have a small amount a yellowish color around the color area. Also all seem to have a very small amount of pink development in the chin area but on the adult pictures posted here I do not see any of that in the hens. If anyone has the time to write more about their observations please do !

I am partially home bound at the moment and these birds are in the house with me so I am a little nutsy at the moment !

The person who was supposed to buy my 15 porcelain d'uccle eggs tonight was a no call/no show
hmm.png
and when I called them to see if they were still interested, they asked if they could pick them up Wednesday instead. By then some of the eggs will be 7 days old. *sigh* If they are a no show on Wednesday, wouldn't that be the perfect excuse to put them in my own incubator if no one else wants them?

I have some of my older d'uccle chicks that are starting to show some beautiful coloring, I think I'll keep them all for now- even the half declawed ones to see how they turn out! I think for right now, I'm going to focus on the coloring, booting, and beards (muffs), and personality, then I'll worry about toenails later. I think I'm going to have to read up on this whole 'chicken breeding' thing, but I can't seem to follow the 'Cull, Cull, Cull' rule yet.

I'm just enjoying these little birds too much!
