D'uccle Thread

shelley-yes I understand about not wanting another roo, and I don't want to split them up either.

salunra-I also understand about not being set up. It's wise to wait, unlike myself. I get the birds then run around frantically building runs and coops. Bad plan!

Just because you don't have your birds yet doesn't mean we can't meet and talk, let me know if you'd like to. There is also a semi-local club that meets each month through the winter. This is the link to the club and the membership is free - http://www.meetup.com/SWOBackyard-poultry/?a=wm1_gn

Celtic-I'll
be happy to send them to you as soon as I get them taken.

Nancy,

Thank you so much for the link! I will have to check that out. Being a complete newbie, it would be such a great thing to have some folks around to help me learn.

Hey Lori, thought I'd post a pic of one of my little lavender roos I'm keeping back for breeding. He's out of Majestic, the roo in my avatar, and is just over/at 4mos old here. He's got a lot of sun-bleaching due to being outside, but I hope the straw color will fade back to normal with minimal time outside now...just to cold for babies to be out. Hope everyone had a great holiday...take care.

Any suggestions on how to keep my d'uccle pair warm this winter? I got a heat lamp w/ 125 heat bulb, but they only stay in there at night. I'm worried about them during the day when they are outside. What do you folks do with yours in the winter?

I honestly don't do much of anything, i have four that live together and i make sure they have pleanty of shavings to cuddle up into. I have never had issues with Duccles and the cold, and im in New England (just for reference)

I do the same. Lots of shavings and they cuddle up together.

Also stoo, yours are booted bantams. No muffs or beards on yours. Still lovely though.

It's only the pair, so I am still very worried. I hate keeping them up all night with that heat light though. Thanks for the comp. The hen is very very sweet - the roo does not want to be handled, but the hen runs up to be picked up. My mom just loves them and I don't want anything I can prevent to happen to them. My Silkies have even looked cold lately and there's lots of them together. My flock is in WV. Thanks for your help.
