How far is Shawnee (drive wise) for you and Betsy?? It's *a possibility* I may not get to go. Have people interested in horses and some birds I had listed online. If they decide to come this weeken...That screws up my buying from Bren or anyone...UNLESS I can get the funds to someone and have them transport a pair of PI and Lavs back for me, then meet them later for pick up. This is starting to kinda suck,

I need to be there!!! How far from Joplin are you (5hrs or so??) and would you be willing to bring back 2 pairs of birds if I paypal you the funds (just in case?????).

Heya.

Local to us, Birden Castle Poultry breeds some nice porcelains. One of them, Jay, is the guy who bought Little Blue from me, and they definitely had other porc d'uccles entered in the Oxford show. If you kept your exhibitor list they're on there. There also will be a handful of porcelains and/or eggs available from other breeders across the country in the spring, and from what I've seen there are some very decent birds out there. Which requires patience, of course.

Regardless, porcelains aren't quite as common as MFs, but they're common enough in this country that you can probably start with all porcelains and breed for type from there. Maybe eventually add a really nice MF here and there if you can't get whatever confirmation you're going for, but not necessarily from the start...

I just got my Backyard Poultry magazine, and it has a very interesting (several pages) article on the Belgian D'Uccles!! Worth reading if you can get a copy of it..

Here are the pics of the waterer and feeder.

Waterer -
3 inch pipe with a slot cut in the top. Being fead by 1.5 " pipe. tried 2 inch, but it kept overflowing so we went to 3 inch which allows some to pool before running out the exit pipe.

Feeder -
3" pipe with a Y of 1.5 or 2" and a cleanout at the bottom.
We fill the cleanout with grit so no feed goes bad. All fittings are dry fitted together to enable you to take it a part to clean.

Doug, that's a neat idea. Does it help with waste or spilld feed as well? How many per pen do you have, just 1?

On the Feeder by reducing the size of hole from 3 inch to 1.5 there was less bill out of feed than the 3 inch.
In the coops that only have up to 5 birds we have one and if there are more we have 2.
We also have them made out of the 1.5 inch for grit and as second one for oyser shells

I may have to awitch because I have gal feeders, a couple 3 gal, but find a lot of waste...even when they are hanging. So this would be a simple way to maybe keep that from happening near as much. BTW, here is a pic of my "lemon" booted from project pen. His tail is just now coming in, so forgive his nakedness...thought you would like to see the variation and how the color breeds true in both the d's and booteds

Where do you see the Porc eggs i always search for them but never find them, or at least not this spring.
