D'uccle Thread

One good thing about show chickens is that they are used to being handled. But I've never had to bathe feet before. I've always done summer / fall shows where they could run around in the dew-soaked lawn before I laoded them up.
And I've never ever had a white bird before

I will be sure to take pics. I'm very excited about this!

I'm also happy because I got another egg from Orion's pen last night. I don't know when it was laid, and it was quite cold. I carried it in my shirt pocket until I got inside, then set it beside the bator until this morning. It was room temp by then! Wouldn't it be lovely if white x lav = silver. I know that's not how it works. But until some eggs hatch I can dream!!!!

Well, I do not envy you any Lori...my girls are bathed and ready. Full baths for both. I was told to use Tide w/ bleach on the White birds....its what my Serama friend uses on his whites. Can't say from experience, my girls are both dark. We are very excited about the show as well, although the tabletop part has me a bit worried

I am sure we will have a good time and he weather is supposed to be much improved. I will let you know when we get there. Planning to be there very early.

I will try to do the same. See you then!
I totally understand why you aren't bathing.....spent hours drying my girls and them had them sit in the family room by the fire to dry completely.

if I sat my birds by the fire to dry off.
He gets peeved when I bring baby chicks to play with by the fire, but since they are little he gets

So, I'm only washing feet, and then they get to sleep in the garage.

Lol...I am soooo lucky. My DH is actually responsible for my SQ Serama. I think he may be more protective of her than I am!

We have the babies in my dining/living room. I had to laugh at him the other night because I caught him saying out loud that they were awfully cute!

Geez Lori, he would have a heart attack at my house then! Right now I have almost 30 babies in the living room and last week before we left for the show, 13 of the 16 were in the living room for the night after their baths so they could stay warm all night.

Yup, he'd have a heart attack. He's a sweet guy and mostly very patient with me, but he's terribly OCD. That's good, because I have him following me, cleaning up my messes. But bad because there are rules, Rules, RULES.

But he bought expensive tubs for washing their feet, once with sturdy lids, so that we could drill holes in the lids and use them fro transporting chicks later on when I finally hatch more.

Finally! I braved the snow and had DH catch the last D'Uccle for her photo op. This is a pullet, right? They're four weeks old now. So, if you agree that this is a pullet, I have a trio, unless someone's very late comb pops up.

Thought you'd like this pic of my 3 week old blue barred EE cockerel next to one of the 4 week old D'uccles. He is sired by my Delaware rooster and his mama is my BR/blue Ameraucana cross hen, Riley:
