D'uccle Thread

For the experienced breeders out there, I have two roosters that are siring my progeny right now. I've noticed my current 'porcelain' sire 'BoDiddly' is throwing better beards on his babes even though my other male 'SugarDaddy' has just as good a beard as he does. What's the next step, in terms of when this current bunch grows up, should I try to make sure that the cockerels from one rooster are paired up with the pullets from the other rooster? I guess I need to start with the zip ties.....

I'm glad you mentioned the state fair, I had actually been wondering about that, like if there was a lot there. I don't know if I'm up to that just yet, but if I do decide to get serious with the d'uccles I would love to go to the fair, we go several times each year. I just don't even know how you get into the showing of birds, do you just enter them? I guess you would first have to lean the SOP for the breed you are wanting to show. But for Missouri, do you know if you have to qualify for the State fair?

At the Missouri Poultry show this spring there were 2 people showing d'uccles: Me and Mopargal72. She brought two, I brought 4. And at the last Missouri Poultry show I went to last October, there were 7 d'uccles, 4 of which were mine. So.....Missouri and Maine must be similar. In the bantams, there's always lotsa silkies, cochins, and brahmas for the feather footed. Plenty of english bantams as well (modern and old english). I don't think I even saw many d'uccles at the state fair either. If it wasn't so darned hot during fair time I'd take a few to show, but at 100 degrees in the shade, I don't know if I want to risk my birds for a ribbon- plus being stuck there all day in the heat. I've been trying to promote d'uccles as best I can by just getting people to try them. I'm hoping they will catch on once people find out what a gem they are.

Our state fairs are a week long, except for a couple that are three days.

Unless I'm within "every day" driving distance, I've learned not to enter fairs.

I'm also wondering if there will be few judges who are familiar with d'Uccles, until the breed becomes a common sight at shows.

Anyhow, when mine are old enough, I'll drag them anywhere that's safe, just to promote them!

I would love to look at some SQ mille fleurs, porcelain and mottled(blue or black). So if any of you have any pictures to post please do. I lost my boy 2 weeks ago and ive been thinking about d'uccles a lot more since then. If i can get some money i will get some more d'uccle and these are my fave colors.
Here is a pic of my mille fleur, I loved his great beard.

Thank you, Lisa

Thank you. Until I got her, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a white d'uccle. I have a porcelain pair and would also like to get some mille fleurs (not easy to find around here), but she was a really sweet little chick. She was really small for her age, though, and not very feathered out for a 5-week-old bird.

Now I want to find more white d'uccles.

Oh, I'm sorry! It always just sucks when any animal dies, and it sounds like your girl was a special one.

Good luck finding white d'uccles, though.
