Mille Fleur is a color, d'Uccle is the breed, like Cochins and they come in many different colors and one of those is Milli Fleur as a "project" color. That means it's not perfected yet, but many folks are working on it, so they will end up with a Mille Fleur Cochin. There is a reference to B/B/S, meaning blue, black or splash. This is a cluster of colors that is produced by what is commonly referred to as the Andalusian gene. The Andalusian gene acts on the color genes that produce black, anything black may, and I say "MAY" be diluted to blue or with a double dose of the gene it will produce the splash color, which is devoid of any color (for the most part).
If you're anything like me, this whole thing about the color may take you years to understand. I've only recently had some of the things about the B/B/S gene begin to click, for instance the difference between a splash d'Uccle and a Golden Neck d'Uccle. AND!!! I learned it here, on BYC. There are some brilliant folks on here.
As far as why he's identified as a cockerel, it's because he "LOOKS" like a cockerel. I know that sounds confusing, so the things that I saw that said
cockerel to me are his general posture and carriage and he's sporting a roosters comb! He's old enough that anyone who has bred d'Uccle for a while can sex him from the pictures you proved us with.
He actually looks like his color pattern is going to be at least reasonably good.
I have a splash hen that I plan to breed to my Mille Fleur roo so that I can get chicks JUST LIKE YOURS!
edited for spelling and grammar
also to let you know, I don't think I did a great job of explaining this. There are some people on here that do a VERY good job of educating, maybe they'll jump in here and give us a refresher post on the Andalusian gene.
