D'uccle Thread

They get more spots each time they molt, through maturity. By a year old you can pretty much tell how spotted your mille fleur will be. And as they age, they get more white in them, which is undesirable. Would be nice if they molted into their set colors at 6 months and STAYED that way, would be much easier for us breeders to make up our minds on who to keep for breeding. Soon as I think I have a pretty hen she changes. And when I think I have a bad looking juvenile, it turns out to be a decent hen. Rule of thumb is hold on to as many as you can until you're for sure you don't want certain ones. Ones w/o a beard, or wattles too big, or off coloring are easy to eliminate.

Off topic: I would really like to see what the hatchery's stock birds look like. Anyone know of a way to find out? Wish I knew someone that worked in one.

I know teddy got her stock from a hatchery. I have some of her chicks that are about 6 months old now. I'm new to this breed and am trying to figure out the traits that are desirable, I have one rooster from Garbard Farms. And one chick from him and pullet before she got ate by a coon. My others are from teddi.

I have the Standard of Perfection book, I would post the information on the breed type but I don't have a scanner. maybe someone else with a scanner or wants to type it all up for those that don't have access to the information can see it. Or maybe there's a link to it out there somewhere?

First thing I noticed wrong was her tail. It's supposed to be at a 70 degree angle, I believe Japanese Bantams are the only ones that should have a squirrel tail. Her feet feathers aren't all that great either but I've seen pics of way worse, maybe you can keep her as a pet, that tail would disqualify her from any show I think. Or maybe they'll just take off some points for it. There's pics of birds that are show quality on the net...just search Google images and you will quickly be able to tell what a good looking one is supposed to look like.

Hi Aspen,
We have BBS Ameraucanas. I just love the blue coloring. We are just starting our flock. We have 24 Ameraucanas, ranging from 20 through 9 weeks old. We also have a few buff silkies and a partridge bantam cochin.

I was wondering...when identifying girls vs. boy d'Uccle's...do they both have pin feathers? I have some sweet chicks that have obvious combs and pin feathers and also some with no comb(same age as the roos) with pin feathers as well! I thought only boys had those...true?
