D'uccle Thread

I'm not allowed to keep birds in the house over winter, not even the garage. In fact, the idea of plugging in the bator was met with a groan! I haven't used the bator yet, since the broodies are mostly dependable. As soon as they give up, though....

This morning I had 2 adorable millie chicks cheeping away in one of the runs. 'Mom' took them for a jaunt outside and then left them there, which is her usual routine. Luckily they are now safely in the brooder! They hadn't been out long, thank heavens. I didn't figure she'd be off the nest until noon.

Is that typical behavior for d'uccle broodies or just your one bird?

It is NOT typical for d'Uccles. The broody that left out the babes was a buff silkie.

Blondes.....

Wegotchickens: Whew! Thanks! I've done both brooder raising and broody raising, and broody is way easier!! Cute chickies! Are those the silkies?

I am strange because I prefer brooder to broody. They're much more tame and it makes marking them and observing development easier when no one is shrieking and pecking me when I try to examine the babies.

Those are mille fleur d'Uccle chicks

I post my silkie/showgirl chicks other places.

Anyone in the East TN with d'Uccles or Booted bantams, please enter them in the Cocke County show! This is in Newport Tennessee. The president of the d'Uccle and Belgain Booted Bantam Club will be there and has entered 18 birds.
