D'uccle Thread

I am not sure if I have shared a photo recently of the chicks I hatched from babymakes6. I am very certain now I have 4 girls and one boy, which is what I figured many weeks ago but was told to wait and see. This photo was taken 2 weeks ago. They are now even better colored up. They are sweet little munchkins and I enjoy them being in the house where I can pet and talk to them all the time. They sing to me but the roo isn't crowing yet. thank goodness!
Yes, the container is very dirty. Wish I had waited until after I cleaned it before snapping this but I was cleaning up and the camera was right there. I assure you it was cleaned after this shot. They now are in a wire cage for more air circulation. One is missing from the photo but you can see them to know what has developed.
And yes, that is a Silkie in the mix. She lives with them for now since "what is one more", ya know? LOL I have about 200 chicks down in my brooder room but these guys live in the house. Nope, I am not chicken crazy at all!

Yep, looks like a black d'Uccle chick to me!

Mine hatch looking a lot like little penguins. There will be a touch of white on them as adults, usually on the tips of their foot feathers. Ron Tallent, Sr. told me last year that you need a touch of white on black birds to keep them 'true black'; Glossy black feathers with a green sheen. I have had some chicks with white feathers on their wings at 2 weeks old, that went to all black by 8 weeks old.

That said, I have noticed a couple of my recent chicks hatched with considerably more yellow on them, looking more like black mottled instead of black. I suspect I know which bird is throwing them, so I may pull her and sell her... She's adorably sweet and her type is good, though, so I will wait a few weeks to see how they feather out.

Thanks Lori! Yes, this chick's first wing feathers have a touch of white at the tips, so maybe it's black. Guess we''l wait and see. It nice being able to ask others who know what they are doing, to help speed along the learning curve. I will have to say these d'Uccles are sweet birds and the black one is espcially people oriented though I've worked harder with the other two? Does bring a smile to the face when you talk to them and they race over to hear what you've got to say! I am very much looking forward to the eggs I have from you, hatching! Should be about the 20th...

These are the first two I hatched from my birds-they are 3 months old now, but these pictures were taken about two weeks ago. They were sitting on my lap.
The pullet already has a lot of "chrome" on her.

I think your babies are super cute, but I have no guess as to what color this will be. I'm excited to watch it mature though, maybe it will be a new and exciting color that no one has ever seen:) Man, I can't wait to have mystery babies of my own!!

Sorry, I saw it and thought 'millie' because I have one in my brooder right now that's very pale. Just never posted about it, I guess.
With d'Uccles, time will tell.
