D'uccle Thread

She looks beautiful, i'm so excited to finally have one, just on pins and needles about the color, i am so relieved to hear that they settle down. My other birds are an EE roo, 2 EE hens, (one i'm holding in my avatar) and an orpington. I lost my bantam cochin this week, i bought these chicks for her since she was not taking care of herself and brooding too hard. I took her off her nest once a day, and placed food and water with her, and cared for her to the end. She just wanted to hatch her own, she was not fooled, and was not strong enough. :( Are a lot of de'uccles broody? I would like a broody very much, though i a m a little fearful now.....

It takes time for them to come into the Adult coloring. Evan at 6 Months they are not the same as at a year. And each year a Mille Fluer moltes the will get whiter and whiter.
D'Uccles are spunky chickens. My 4 year old roo will still take on all comers including the salmon Faverolles, Guinea fowl, or any other crearure that comes near.
By 4 weeks you can see the males will have redder combs than the girls. Our pullet chicks will engage in the chest bumping and feather pulling shananagans the same as the roos. this is just sorting out flock higher archy.

I don't know, mine have black, but it's not in a polka-dot pattern like i expected. One of my MI peeps had this one, this is a porcelain chick, right?
Whatever they are, they sure are spunky, trying to fly already and beating each other up for food rights, and perching rights! I hope i don't have all roos! I really needed the porcelain for my breeding project, so i will have to keep trying. One of them is a runt, and is so calm and cuddly that i am thinking i want to keep him/her.
