Uh oh. Although I think I have been getting eggs from her, if she is a rooster, than I can't keep her...

how old is this little one i know my little pullets wings arent that solid in color and its comb just seems way to red (unless it is a she and she is laying)

heres my lil girl crystal, notice her wings arent solid in color and she doesnt have solid hackles really eaither. shes about 5 months in this pic

Pearl is laying, and I am pretty sure (almost positive, since she is...maybe 7 months? I have to ask the breeder) she is a girl. I can get more pics, though.

I would say Pearl is definitely a pullet. If she were a cockerel it would be very obvious

since she is 7 months then yea i'm pretty sure shes a she if she was a cockerel the comb would be like 2x bigger lol

I would normally agree untill 3 weeks ago.

One of the D'Uccles we hatched last spring we thought was a pullet and put it in to the lemon breeding coop. It continued to develop and looked like a Pullet and acted like a pullet. We never got 10 eggs from that coop although there were 10 Pullets. in Feb we started to notice that the comb was getting bigger and bigger until it reached cockeral size. Then we noticed it was attempting to crow and every day it got better and better at crowing. I sold it last week as a male as it was mounting the females and fighting with the Lemon Rooster in the pen.

In general yes you can tell early with great confidence but periodically you may find a late bloomer. I can normally tell by 3 -4 weeks but the od one may take longer.

If you're interested I have a auction for hatching eggs(link is in my signature). I haven't actually hatched out any of their chicks before but the lady I got the trio from said that she hatched out blue,black,and white chicks. I do have some of their eggs in the incubator and they are developing very well.

Yes, sometimes if there is no rooster around, the dominant hen will crow and mount other hens!
