D'uccle Thread

My dad rescued 3 chicks from some people who bought them as Easter chicks for there 2 and 3 year old kids. When they heard about them there were 5, 1 was squeezed to death and the other I dont know what happend. My dad didnt want them so I took them. Brought them home sunday, 2 oegb and 1 d'uccle. My step mom also said the people were only feeding them oats no chicken feed at all. Im slowly taming them down but Ill share a pic of them. The D'uccle is a the mille fleur color. Are milles supossed to have white legs? and should they have feathers on the middle toes? Ill post more pics as she grows because ive been wanting more d'uccle(and oegb) so im excited to see how she turns out. I have a 3 yr old mille hen who would like another buddy so once this little one grows up she'll go in with her and ill prob get a roo also.

Opinions so far?

Soooo i was totally in love with the por elain duccles but just had another breeder tell me that out of 3their pairs her friend was unable to keep any porcelain babies alive past one week! Do you all think that there is simething like a re cessive gene linked to color that is killing off a lot of these birds?

Those are sooo cute. I just hatched some black and blue mottled and about 10 Milles almost 2 weeks ago. I have 8 porcelains and 8 mixed BL/BLK mottled in the bator now. (and 10 bantam Sumatras). Wish I could post pics of them but my work computer won't allow it:(. Maybe I'll bring my lap top and do it haha

Is there any "lethal gene" in the d'Uccle breed? I have a nice pair of Blue Millie Fleur d'Uccle.
They were purchased from different breeders, in different states, so I know they are unrelated.

The eggs hatch great and the chicks are so cute. They are healthy, vigorous little chicks till
they get about 3-5 days old. Then they just fade away. No pasty butt or anything. Other
breeds of chicks in the same brooder will do fine. Every single d'Uccle chick I've hatched,
and I've hatched several dozen from the pair now, has died like this. They just fade out
over a period of several days. They never live more than a week. I have tried incubating and
rearing with a broody hen. Same difference.

I have tried different feeds, bedding, extra treats, vitamins, electrolytes, etc. What else can I do?
Please PM me with any info you have. Appreciate it!

Maybe there is a lethal gene combination. Try pairing each up with a different color like a regular mille fleur and see what happens?
