D'uccle Thread

Okay so from what I've read, they aren't likely to go broody, they're good flyers, they're really affectionate, and pretty calm.. Did I miss anything basic? Mine would be a week old chick, when can you usually tell their gender? Sorry but I don't have a lot of time to read the whole thread right now.

Youve got the jist of it but dont let the good flying go to your head when free ranging. Theyd most likely be the ones to get nabbed by a predator because of their feather footed disposition. I dont allow them to free range unless im there. It'll b awhile before you can sex it. At least 2 months or a bit longer. Usually easier if you have other D'uccles the same age to compare comb and feather differences. And I have heard they are on the broody side of breeds. Even the roosters are very parent-like its amazing. My rooster will walk around and crow at an uncovered egg until a hen comes and sits haha. its a very loud annoying crow, not the regular crow.

Yea none of my birds will ever free range when I'm not there to watch them. We have too many wild dogs around here. But okay, I have told the lady that I will get the chick. Just hoping its a girl so I dont end up with too many roos..

that's great! I wonder if that means that my EE really does want to be a papa, if they do know. He "inspects and approves" the nests, the girls won't use one unless he does. Then he has to go stand by them half the time while they are laying eggs, i figured he wanted to be a daddy.

Now i'm probably gonna have a de'uccle roo, and they will probably conspire together

Does anyone have any pics of a splash D'uccle? That is what I'll be getting but I can't seem to find pics anywhere. If they are farther back in the thread, if you know the page number that would be great because I've been searching through but haven't gotten very far yet. Thanks.
