D'uccle Thread

Well, looks like I will be going to the show in the morning. I canned the idea of fully bathing all my chickens, and just washed the porcelains feet and hocks. My hens I was going to bring are all broody.

HAHA thats too funny

They still allow you to show though right? I hope you got some pics from the show.

Can someone tell me the basic info about D'uccles? I have the opportunity to get one but don't know anything about the breed. I like to do my research before I get anything so any info would be great. Thanks

Thats a very general question. There are hundreds of posts if you have some time to look through this thread from the start. That might be more fun for you with all the pictures and vast amounts of info already shared. The most important thing I will tell you is that you SHOULD get it if you have the opportunity to. They are great bantams to have:) If you do get it post a picture of it

Okay so from what I've read, they aren't likely to go broody, they're good flyers, they're really affectionate, and pretty calm.. Did I miss anything basic? Mine would be a week old chick, when can you usually tell their gender? Sorry but I don't have a lot of time to read the whole thread right now.

Can you get back to porcelain if you breed it to a regular millie?
I have noticed that my porcelain chick isn't "thriving" as well as my millie's. Luckily i noticed but i had to make mash in the bottom of a milk top and poke her at it until she started to eat and drink. She was pecking at the food, but not actually getting a lot in, and she pecks the water, not really doing as the others and drinking well. I put a little sugar in the water, that seemed to make her drink more. I will make sure she makes it, but it makes me wonder too.

"the poultry health handbook" by gail damerow has charts in it for practically everything, i will borrow it from the library and see what the usual causes of death are for the 3 day to a week chicks.
