They're being shown in the junior show but I'm showing 2 white cockerels,1 blue pullet, and 1 buff cockerel.

I have a little bit of a d'uccle dilemma, and I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice.

Not quite 3 weeks ago I picked up two porcelain d'uccle chicks from the local feed store. Complete impulsive chicken math purchase, lol. I'd seen pictures of adults and thought they were GORGEOUS birds. So, I figured why not get a couple to add to the backyard flock. Now I'm reading that these guys are excellent fliers.

This has me concerned because I really don't want them flying over the fence and meeting the neighbor's dog!

I currently have a mixed flock and none of them are big fliers. Everyone is cooped at night, but during the day they have free range of my large backyard (surrounded by 6' wood privacy fence). With the d'uccles, should I clip one of their wings? Wait until they start flying or clip before they get in the habit of flying? Or would they be better off if I rehomed them? They're 3 weeks old and one has a slightly larger comb that might be turning a teeny bit pink, so I think I probably have a boy and girl. If one's a boy he'll have to be rehomed regardless.

Has anyone had a d'uccle that WASN'T a flier? (Especially if their flockmates are aerially impaired <gg>)

I wouldnt worry about them flying over. Just make sure there are no roosts or shelves of some sort next to the fence that would encourage, or make it easier for them. From my experience they're not the lead explorers so they wont travel far from the coop itself or away from the flock

looks like a quail d'anver (they dont have straight combs though and i would love to have one of these)
