D'uccle Thread

That was a cute video. My new pumpkin boy will chase a hen until he catches her, then he will hang on until she just gives up. He is VERY persistent. Isn't it fun watching these guys? I've cut waaaay down on tv.

One baby lemon spangled hamburg was born for my citron d'uccle project. These are his/her parents.

Of the two pale chicks i had one turned butterscotch, and one is still very pale not-quite-white color, feathers come in with just a blush then fade as they grow.............no red on the back yet, coming in just like the wings..............??? (Not d'uccle, but could be used if it is 'special' ?
This was from my possible silver roo with gold leakage (saddle and hackle) paired with a brown-red/buff red hen...............? Not white because the chick fuzz was pale instead of yellow, and not a silver because silver don't blush, right?

Sorry, these EE chicks, but it shows the difference in color better when you see it next to other colors.......and for some reason a few of them seemed to have a spangle at the end of the feathers??? Hmm. I no longer have the poppa though.

Spent all day yesterday at the show. It took longer than we expected. Left the house at 6:30am and got home around 6pm.

Might've gotten home earlier, but there was a mother who got there after the show was over, while we were cleaning up. Her son was clearly special needs, and when he expressed his sorrow that the silkies were gone, I offered to get mine back out so he could see them. He was thrilled! It turns out silkies & d'Uccles are the breeds he really wants for pets, as soon as his mom gets a coop set up for bantams. We neded up showing him a sample of all the colors of birds, and he would've kept us there longer but my daughter was expecting company and we needed to get home. I definitely made a new friend, though!!

Anyway, the birds did well. I got Best of Breed with my millie hen, as well as Best & Reserve of Variety for millies, blacks & self-blues. A competitor's pretty porcelain hen got Reserve of Breed, though. My buff silkies did okay, and my buff pullet got Reserve of Variety. Over-all, I was very pleased with the day.

Today was spent catching up on yard work. I let some of the birds out to play while raking. We had the radio playing while I watched my millie rooster try to woo the best buff silkie pullet. She was NOT interested! Then, a song came on and I grabbed the camera...

Ok so the chicks are close to 8 weeks of age. Here is my unique colored roo Midas and a group picture. With the other two with no red on their combs at all, would you say we are pretty safe as pullets, or are there alot of surprises in this breed?

(sorry for the delay DSF...made me post them seperate)
