D'uccle Thread

A few weeks ago I had my mystery hatch. All parents are D'uccles. There is NO chance another boy can get in the coop/pen area. The ONLY change was the parents were treated with Doxycycline shortly before egg collection.
Here they are about 3 weeks out.

Both "yellow" ones...different shades, no spots. You can see the black mohawks in the background....

A better view of the mohawks. NO idea where the head tufts came from.

They were all black up until about a week ago...then 2 of the black ones started getting brown stripes on their necks. You can barely see them, but they are there.

Here is a closer view of the stripes.

Just thought I would share the interesting hatch I had. I have 6 eggs set to hatch in the next 24-48 hours....we will see what we get this time!
Do you have Belgian watermaels also? They have poofs on their heads.

They are very interesting looking! But, they are definitely not pure d'uccle, those black chicks are much bigger and obviously have the crests. I don't think a medication wouldn't have that kind of effect, at least nothing THAT drastic.

Of the chickens that were laying, all were D'Uccle. I have had them as breeders before with great results...nothing like this. There was one other pullet (3 months old) that was a mix of something. But she was not laying and all eggs were collected on the same day, so....even if any were hers...they all couldn't be. It just baffles me.

Does she lay the same colored eggs as your D'uccles? And do you think she has Silkie in her?

I have never heard of a med doing that either.............Are you SURE that a rooster couldn't have flown the fence? Unless you have a complete roofing system, anything's possible! I have seen chickens fly up pretty high when they wanted something!

All eggs were small, creamy white and layed from a saturday to sunday, collected Sunday AM. Full fenced in pen/coop. My husband built it like Ft. Knox so nothing could get in. I can't wait to see what the next hatch brings. It's like Christmas!

Have the d'uccle hens ever been in a mixes flock (with other breeds of roosters) if they were recently separated then they might still have some "juice" from the other roosters.

I have one other roo besides all my D'uccle boys. He is a standard 13# mix of RIR and EE. (I am guessing on that). There is no chance he was with my girls. He free ranges during the day. Unless he can figure out a locking pen door or coop latch, he hasn't had contact with them.

I am very interested in seeing what they look like as adults. It adds to the uniqueness of my flock. I love it!
