Lovely.  In my opinion he's a little heavy on white, but other than that, he looks great!  He does have the slightest bit of wattles, but they aren't to noticeable.  I would definitely breed him! 

that was an older pic he dosent have that big of ones anymore they kinda shriveled up a bit . his beard was also flat in one because he was afraid of my tablet. he is used to it now. i already use him for breeding his babies dont have hardly any wattles the females have none so far. he is older and from foreign heritage. he does have a little bit to much white for a male his chicks have less white but most of his hens have a lot of white

I think the blindness at hatching is just a freak thing. From what I've read even if it does have a genetic base, it's unlikely to happen again. I think your baby will be fine SilkiesForEver, and not have many problems. Look at silkies and polish, they are close to blind from their crests and do great, lol.

Keep us updated on her. I really want to know if she is a she, and if there is anything to what I read about congenital blindness being linked to girls.

Coffeekittie- Sounds like a great project. Are they silver quail? I love that coloring, and would love some d'uccles in quail.

They are silver quail, yes. I'm hoping to get a new camera soon, as my current one is pretty much useless. These girls have the "bull-neck" look that is SOP for d'Uccles. Looking down at them from above, their body is sort of teardrop shaped from front to back - large, full neck and chest, and a nice depth when seen from the side. I'm really looking forward to getting this front end into my birds. Short of importing d'Uccles from Europe (which isn't going to happen) cross breeding seems the only way to drastically change what I like the least about US birds.

Having said all this, I'm new to breeding chickens, and am not claiming to be an expert by any stretch of the imagination! There are a lot of d'Uccle breeders here who have been working with this breed for years, and they are the ones to learn from. I'm just sharing what I am doing.

He has way to much white, see the white on his tail feathers they should be diamond shaped almost. What is the girl with him?  I would bred him to her she looks like her spangles would be good to improve his, can't hurt. Unless you are not going to show or sell eggs he, when ever i get chicks from shelly the hen in the pic with him i get chicjs that look exactly like shelly. My chicks havent had to much white. I m keeping one of my roos to see what he looks like as an adult. I think stone is pretty good for being from a foriegn breeder and a hatchery.

I like his beard, but I definitely would look for hens to mate him with that have really good cheek muffs. It isn't easy for me to clearly see from the pictures (I use a small netbook so the pics are tiny), but it seems to me that he has a nice beard and not much in the way of abundant feathering on his cheeks. It's great that he has the ability to throw good babies! That's the most important thing. They say that SQ birds used in mating doesn't necessarily mean SQ babies.

And some breeds you have to actually breed for for show by breeding a non-show quality to another, in order to actually get the correct something or other for show. Weird. Can't remember the breed, but it's a bantam I think.

ok this may be a litle off topic but i have a belgian d'uccle who is sitting on call-duck eggs and she they are hatching now one is on its way out
of the egg i had thought of helping it but instead i just got a little more shell off it got me thinking will she be ok at raising ducks!!! and will she
help them out of the egg if they need help!!!??????????
