Duchess hatches babies, saved eggs hatching in bator!

Two more this morning, another little yellow ball of fluff and a really interesting black and yellow fluffy butt. There are 6 more eggs that can see pipping, you can see a couple in the pics too.
Yes she is still sitting and don't look cross-eyed at those eggs or babies or she will chastise you loud and violently!

I have a Silkie and 2 Buff Orps...come ooooooon, Broodies!

I would take a broody off your hands, but I'm on the opposite side of Texas...which would be what....about 4 days drive??? LOL

What is the container that she's nesting in? It looks perfect for a broody! My EE went broody 3 weeks after she began laying, I gave her 5 D' Uccle eggs to sit on.

The good thing is...she could probably leave the nest for a while and the eggs would still hatch...they can incubate themselves in this heat!!!

I've wondered what would happen if I just left eggs in the nestboxes, without a broody. It's around 100 in my coop every day..... I know, I know, it wouldn't work...but I daydream sometimes. But then again...sometimes the girls sleep in the nestboxes at night...that would keep them warm overnight

about 4 days drive

I drive to Houston in 1 and a half days lol.
What is the container that she's nesting in?

It is a collapsible dog travel kennel, nice and airy and roomy!

Oooooh, really? My EE sometimes acts like she wants to be broody....she sits in the nestbox even after she finished laying her egg...puffs up and growls at us when we want to take it. She's not serious about it though...she hops down after a while and joins the rest of the flock. But maybe someday soon....

TxMom,

One of my EEs just went broody recently, hope that means good things for yours. My DH drives through NM occasionally for work... maybe he could pick up a broody for you when he drives through

ETA - AND you have a silkie... shouldn't she be going broody too?

I told those darn hens if one more goes broody before next year they are soup! After losing Charlotte last night and I haven't been able to find her nest, I just will not allow another broody! And that darn Hershey duck is sitting on 6 eggs she stole from Midnight! Big Sissy is sitting on duck eggs and 4 chicken eggs, and the Frizzle I thought was too young and had vanished was found yesterday on a nest of 14 eggs!
