I feel your pain. My girls are total snobs, too. All food that hasn't been eaten regularly is surely poison and they will literally turn their backs on it. They are so picky that tiny bright red grape tomatoes are their favorite. They turn their bills up at other tomatoes, even though they almost bite my hand off eating tomatoes. Brats.

My ducks also rejected dubia roaches. And they don't like black soldier fly larvae. Mealworms only. Thank you.

So, one way I've convinced my ducks that new food is not poison is the way you mentioned. Slip a tiny bit of new food in the food they like. My ducks eat around the new food disdainfully for about 3-6 weeks before starting to eat it and then I increase the new food slowly.

The other way might only work with my ducks. My ducks are obsessed with eating food that I'm eating. So if I want them to try something I get a bowl of it myself, sit on the ground, and start eating it. I ignore them as they come closer, maybe pretend to read a book. They'll make a mad dash at my bowl eventually and get a bite or two. I scoop up my bowl and pretend to be outraged while they beg for more. I give in and hand feed it to them. 🙄 Ducks.

Annnd here we go into January, the least favorite month for my ducks. It’s also my least favorite month. Today was decent, but it was the last decent day, probably until March. Every morning, I shall tell them the same thing. I’m sorry. I know January sucks, but hang in there. Next comes February, which is short, then March, and spring will come. Tomorrow, I will thicken the bedding in preparation for the big freeze. Bears have the right idea, hibernating during the worst months. Anyways, I know they’ll be fine, but I also know they strongly prefer warm weather. As do I. Onwards we go. 77 days until spring.
 
I’m with you Daph. We had a nice warm spell, but here comes the cold. My ducks have actually started mating more and laying more eggs! I think they thought it was already spring. Rude awakening coming :(

The other duck is like, "no fair! How come you get a necklace!?" She's like "it's because I'm the favorite." Lol

I’m back!! I have not gotten a single alert for this thread and am so far behind. :he
I’ve been enjoying playing catch-up while sitting and watching incubator tv. Love to see all the adorable ducks…:love:pop

As I type, I must say, that my duck addiction has taken a turn for the worse. I regret to inform all of you (especially @duluthralphie ) that I know have 27 ducks. Yes you read that right, as in TWENTY-SEVEN adorable balls of fluff running around my yard and moving into my shed… :oops:

Also in other breaking news… I have 11 eggs out of my show quality call duck pair that are currently in the incubator with 8 days to go! Nerve wracking to say the least, so wish me luck in my endeavors. :clap

I’m also terribly sad to announce that my ducks are liked more than me. Alas, I checked my Instagram and it appears that my duck Bobbles has more followers than I. :hit
Guess he’s just cuter… :lau

I apologize for that rollercoaster of emotions but it was at this moment that I realized I needed professional help and decided to check my self for a counseling session at DAA. :old
