Do you have too many ducks?

How big are your ducks? Hawks never bothered my big chickens and big ducks. But they are hell on bantams and call ducks. Also the size of the hawk matters. The young ones usually won’t go after things that are bigger than themselves. But one never knows….
Yeah I’m not too worried about an attack, the geese do a solid job of deterring that, but more so the spread of AI to my county. There’s so many songbirds (that I don’t feed) and hawks that still do swoop through my yard that it just makes me so nervous about it all. Like I’m taking all the bio security precautions I can with shoes & clothing, but the wild birds are something I can’t control without $$$$

AI was detected in a red-shouldered hawk in the county next to mine, and I'm having a really hard time deciding what to do about it all. It's like option A is rehoming as many birds as possible so that I can cut the size of their pen down and be able to afford netting it off or option B is to keep up what measures we've been doing and wait to see what happens :/ I love all my birds, but there are a few that I would be just absolutely devastated to lose.
You must be fairly close to me. This has really worried me too. My big ducks stay in my fenced area right out my back door. This area was intended to keep my 2 Maltese pups from running off and for my lazy self to be able to just open the door and let them out to potty without having to take them for a walk. Covering this isn't really an option since the chain link fence is 4ft tall. I'm only 5ft but wouldn't that be a sight? I can section off part of it for them and I am considering that. This is really worrisome, especially since NC has so many more confirmed cases of h5n1 than other states. A friend and I were talking about that and they mentioned that maybe other states aren't testing as much as NC. I don't know but I'm right there with you. I found someone with geese for sale in NC. I have wanted geese for so long. Due to this HPAI, I decided to hold off on getting them. Although I have no answers for you, I'll be thinking about you and your flock and 🙏🏻

You've got a little something on your bill 🤣🤣🤣

Is her name bulldozer? lol
That's hilarious! Her name is Tom ☺️ She was 1 of 4 "Assorted Ducklings" on clearance at TSC when my daughters Dad purchased them and brought them home. I called TSC the next day and their supposed "Duck Lady" told me that all of them were boys, but if I'd come in right then, she'd personally choose some females from a group they'd just received that morning. So off we went to get more ducklings. I told her that we only wanted 2 more so we went to the back where she picked them up and made them peep. She could tell their sex by their voice, even at a day old 🙄 She chose 2 ducklings for us and said that she was very successful at telling their sex. Fast forward, the first group of 4 was a Pekin Duck hen, a buff hen, Pekin drake (with an awful foot deformity that she completely missed), and a jumbo Pekin drake. The two that she chose for us assuring her abilities were a Cayuga drake and a Mallard Drake 🤦🏻‍♀️
Lesson learned 🤣🤣🤣
