The sunning trap wouldn't work because snapping turtles don't sun themselves like other turtles.

The funnel trap that 1acrefarm posted a link to is what I have used. The bait goes inside and the turtle goes through the webbing and can't find his way back out. Don't completely submerge the trap so the turtle doesn't drown.

Oh, and don't stop after you catch it. There is always more than one.

Use large shrimp. We catch several snappers on limb lines with 3/0 or 4/0 circle hooks and 3 or 4 large shrimp on each hook. Use mason line and tie the hooks on good. They can't get loose from the circle hooks. Any smaller hooks and they can bite through the hooks if its a big turtle.

Hummm...I need to catch turtles but not the catfish...tricky. We had a 5/0 hook on a steel leader attached to mason line. Maybe the shrimp would work. We used chicken liver catfish stink bait.....and we caught 5 catfish....no turtles. I like the trap idea. That might work. Lord I have no idea how many of them there may be. I want to keep trying though. It was really cool having the ducks out there. I'd like to be able to let them out again. Thanks for the suggestions.

Another option is to park yourself under a tree by the water's edge with a cooler and a rifle. Drop some stink bait a few inches off shore and wait for the turtles. At least that was our idea of fun when I was young. There wasn't a lot to do out in the country.

Best way to catch a dinosaur is with an underwater trap. bait with chicken legs that have set out a bit.( you want them a little stinky)

Ok I have dial up so it took me over an hour to get the youtube but it was worth it. I NEED TURTLE MAN!!!! I'll even buy him some front teeth if he cleans out my pond! That guy is crazy! Hummmm...just maybe.... if my husband studied turtle man's technique....hummmmm YA! That could work!

I do like the trap idea too. I'm going to look into building one because all we are getting is catfish.
