Duck began hiding eggs

My blue swede has only been laying for a few weeks now and I have struggled to notice any sort of pattern. About 4 eggs have been laid out in the open or what resembles a nest in her pen. The other eggs I found in a clutch (10), buried under the straw and retrieved, buried deeply in the straw and I stepped on, and one outside of the pen.

Is there any way to check the pen bedding for buried eggs without stepping on one! Should I try the fake egg method? For the most part she is laying in her pen before being let out everyday so I know the eggs are in there I just am afraid to look too hard for them...
