Duck Breed Focus - Cayuga

@peepquack your ducks are beautiful, love the color! That's a good photo of the 3 of them checking out the shoe

I have three ducks that are cayuga in a mixed flock. They're shorter than the runners with an oblong carriage. Sweet, vocal, curious, and oh so soft. I get a kick from watching them try to fly, sice they're so heavy, they don't. I got them to add some extra color to my duck egg basket, but also to cross with the runner. I hope that I'll get birds that look similar to cayuga, but with increased laying ability. I hope everyone tries this breed.

Those are some beautiful Cayuga's! My Cayuga, Pocahontas, has some pretty iridescents, but not nearly as much as these. She has to live in the shadow of my Black Swedish who has her colors turned up all the way... Go figure. Pocahontas is the dominant female in my flock and will peck anyone who is out of line. She is one of the three ducks who with interact with us without food and she is the most present of the ducks. If the flock decides to lay down on the other side of the yard, she will still stay close to us all by herself. (As soon as we leave, she will join the flock.) She very seldom quacks, but she talks the whole time she is eating whether she eats pellets or forages in the yard. She usually gives us 3 or 4 low clucks when she approaches us.

@NorthFLChick , I am SO sorry for not saying this sooner, but thank you for complimenting my ducks! It was never my intention to be rude.

I'm just glad to be here learning more about ducks, thanks for bearing with me.

Oh my gosh. I did not know that the drakes don't grow tail feathers. Now I'm going to have to re-evaluate all my "hens" to make sure they're all girls. I've been anxious about that since I ordered them because I knew vent sexing wasn't 100% with new hatches.
