Duck Breed Ideas!!!

Thanks everyone for the resposes, Yep im in the uk and ducks are very hard to find here. I like all your suggestion but my resivations with pekin is arent they quite big and muscovies are extreamly hard to were I live. I think im sold on the harliquin if I can get some.

You will love the Welsh Harlequin. They are soooo pretty, and very versatile. I am now kicking myself that I did not get more then 2 when I ordered ducklings.

I love my flock of welsh harlequins, but they are not exactly quiet! LOL if noise is a big issue, then I say moscovies . If the neighbors don't mind them giving you a noisy greeting in the morning when you bring them fresh water, you will be fine with the harlequins.

Ooh a fellow person from the UK

We have runners. It seems in the UK the best way to get ducks is just by contacting small breeders or people who have them as pets, as I don't think we have any of the hatchery businesses like in the US. A leisure farm near us has animals including ducks and chickens and that's where we got our original two boys then our 4 girls. We just hatched 4 of our own babies

I have saxonies, pekins, Welsh Harlequins, snowy mallards, and LOTS of runners. The quietest by far are the snowy mallards. Same coloring as the welsh harlequins, but smaller and quieter. However, they primarily lay eggs only in spring and summer, and they CAN fly, though mine have only done so when I tried to separate them from their friends, and they only fly back to be with their buddies.
