Duck Breed Questions

Hopefully your babies come in safe and sound! I was so anxious the entire time. I was worried mine would be DOA coming all the way from California to TN.
Thank you! I hope so too! Just a few more weeks until the big day & I'm really hoping that the post office doesn't somehow lose them along the way. I'm in CT so a bit farther east from CA than TN... I guess all I can do at this point is just hope that everything goes well & wish for the best ✨🤞✨

You shouldn’t have a problem with other ducks legs giving up on them, it’s just a flaw in pekin breeding to get them fat and tasty quickly. You might check some local 4-h poultry clubs for ducks to. Some arnt holding their end of year auctions due to covid and some of the members will post on their fbs or their clubs might post something, about selling their project birds. I got ten geese and twelve Pekins last year like that, $10 per bird and then they gave me two pekins for free because they had leg problems. Some of them will have the money go as a donation to the club so you might also be able to use it as a tax write off.

I actually just looked at them, I only want to get 2 more ducklings to add to my existing duck. The price isn’t terribly bad, I’m just worried about having them shipped out. I’m all the way in Tennessee. Do you think they would make it here safely?
Metzer farms shipped my two female mallard ducklings from California to Ohio, they made five stops before they got here but made it in the two days and were just fine. I also have two 3 year old Rouens that are great hens that I love. They lay beautiful eggs and my Mallard is sitting on some right now that I hope will hatch out the end of this week. She has both Rouen eggs and Mallard eggs under her. They do not have any leg problems as they are the production Rouens, there is a breed of them that is much bigger. Rouens are friendlier than Mallards but I love both. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
