Duck can’t walk

My Rouen Clair, (Jeffrey) suddenly stopped walking today. I checked her all over for bites and could only find some pulled feathers but I don’t know if those were there before. She started walking funny yesterday but I thought it was a burr this morning she couldn’t even walk out of the pen. She has what looks like pasty butt also which I’ve noticed in one of my chickens a duck had that a few weeks ago also.

It looks she injured her leg. If you have a drake it could have been from that or even another female mounting her. Or maybe she just tripped or something like that.

You will want to keep her in an enclosed area and reduce her movement so she can rest. Give her deep baths, so she can float. This will take the pressure off her leg and allow her to exercise the leg with less stress on it.

Do you notice any swelling in her leg? If you do, you can put a epsom salt compress on the leg. I also use ibuprofen to help with swelling and pain.

You will also want to monitor how much she eats and drinks. Depending on the severity of the injury, I have found my ducks stop eating and drinking sometimes.

She’s separated inside. She’s eating and drinking. I don’t see any swelling in her legs but they are the wrong color and are grayish brown when they normally are bright orange. There’s many rattlesnakes and copperheads here so I’m kind of concerned about something might’ve bitten her.

Yeah that’s what I’m starting to think. I’ve treated leg and muscle injuries before just never have had the legs turn color.

@Lordofthegreenpeas have you examined her legs all over for any bite marks to rule out snake bite? I agree with @Quatie rest, deep soaks and epsom salt wraps .

This morning she seems back to normal. Her legs are still greyish but they're turning back. I think she might've gotten bitten or

poisoned. I looked all over for snake bites yesterday but couldn't find anything but they heal so fast that it could have already been closed up.
