Duck Dilemma - UPDATED #35

This is very weird....

If the ducks are happy at your place, I would just say that they got out of the pen and wandered off.

I thought these people were the original owners?? Then why the heck do those people have them??

call animal control - tell them the story, that they tried to give them away anyway...as far as you are concerned the (previous) owners owe you 'room and board' if they want them back - they won't pay to get them back
there is more than one way to skin a tree

Not entirely sure if getting Animal Control involved would improve the situation. If the owner had been abusing the ducks or had made threats against anyone - that's different. But I'd suggest trying to get things settled 'between neighbors' before getting the city or county involved.

I agree that while the ducks may be better off with you than playing in the street, you have less claim to these quackers than the original owner (neighbor of your friend). If it was me, and the owner came 'round, I'd offer to keep them, but would feel that I should surrender them if the owner wanted them back.

I think charging for boarding is a good idea. Tow truck companies do it, after all. *g* Call around to pet sitters or boarding facilities in your area, find out what they charge per day for feeding and watering. Add 50% for the disease threat these birds posed to your flock.

Oh well, I was going to tell him that it's $5.00 a day per duck since June 23rd when I rec'd them.......but he never called again. I guess Harley, Gretchen and Nathan are mine.
