Hey there everyone! I have 7 duck eggs my female Pekin duck that laid these eggs sadly passed away and I was left with these guys. I’ve never hatched eggs before and I have seen you can’t really tell if the egg is fertile until 7-10 days I know there was a mallard duck around that wasn’t mine so that’s why I’m hopeful! I did see a picture that you maybe can start seeing something at 4 days? This is day 4 of candling these eggs hopefully someone can help me to tell if they are fertile.

Sorry to hear about your Pekin, I'm not gonna guess on these eggs, maybe someone else sees something at 4 days. I would suggest be patient for a few more days and you can easily be certain as you will see veins and the developing embryo. I was just candling my call duck eggs this evening and showing my wife how much of a difference from day 8 to 13. She had never seen eggs candled before and could see the ducklings moving and I think it might be the first time she was actually excited about my ducks! Anyway, hoping you get some fertile ones there, but again I would wait 3 or 4 days. Search "Duck Egg Candling Chart" and look under images for a better idea of what your looking for.

:welcome

I've seen development on day four of incubation, but it also partly depends on the egg color and its dirtiness, so that said, I would definitely wait a few more days and then you'll know for sure if it's actually fertile or not. I'm sorry to hear about your Pekin.

Thank you! I’m going to

Thank you I’m hoping we get at least one survivor the eggs were really dirty she laid them inside a hollowed out tree and they were covered with dirt and leaves. I’m going to wait a few days to candle again then post pictures!
