One duck egg pipped on wrong side and possibly shrink wrapped because other 3 eggs also shrink wrapped. Any help pls.. possibly its been 3 to 6 hours after the pipped.. I have read the assisting post already, however need some more clarity in this case since it has both wrong end and shrink wrapped..

What day are they on? What breed? You may have to assist if you want the duckling to make it.

It seems like was alive 10 hours ago. Then I put it inside the hatcher where other eggs are waiting to hatch.. planning to check after an hour. Anything need to be done to save it? Or should I just leave it for another 24 hours or so..
Is he still alive

whats the humidity in the hatcher? Has the pipped chick broken through the membrane or is it it shrink wrapped and can't get through? If the latter spray some warm water onto the membrane to make it wet. Think of a slice of bread. If you leave the bread on the counter for 24 hours it will go hard. Leave a baguette for longer and you could probably knock someone out with it. Spray some water on it and it will go soggy and not even be able to hold its shape anymore.

This is why a high humidity is important during the hatch. If the membrane has become too dry, it becomes tough like leather and the chicks can't break through it, so you wet it like a baguette so it becomes soft and easy to break. They need to make a hole to start breathing. Once they have made a hole they can still suffocate so they need to be placed upright, dab away any liquid once the hole has been made if you have to.

Try to work out why this happened in the first place so you can improve on the next try.

Humidity was around 60 however don't have a hygrometer now. Since its a homemade hatcher using Styrofoam, yes chances are there for less Humidity. I checked the egg now and it's still alive.
Seems like a small crack, not a big hole. Shall I apply coconut oil on the cracked area? Or shall I remove little bit of the shell on the crack and apply oil? Don't have a sprayer handy to water spray..

Oil is way better than water, water just dries right back up.
