We have a farm/feed store in Northern California and we used to sell chicken eggs. (We used to sell eggs from anyone who brought them in....long long time ago.) I know that there are some very hefty and strict regulations on the raising/packaging of chicken eggs but I have not been able to find any information on Duck Eggs. We have been getting asked very often every year and I've been slowly considering adding some extra ducks to our personal flock so that we have some eggs to sell. We would still candle the eggs, clean, refrigerate, you know the drill. I would like to know if anyone knows any information on selling backyard duck eggs in California. Technically it would be MY personal self selling to the retail store. All the websites say that the laws apply to chicken eggs. So are there any regulations on duck eggs?

An interesting question, not only for Californians! There's chicken egg regulations all over the place, but duck- or other-eggs (quail!) found nothing. My assumption is that if one follow the chicken egg regulations to the dot on the "i" you'd be safe with other eggs too. But i could be dead wrong.

Call Olivera Egg Ranch in San Jose, or Metzer Farms, they might know.

Your local extension office or even CDFA directly can be really helpful for questions like these. I bet CDFA's meat egg and poultry branch will be able to answer you. And they're nice people, they've always been really helpful with my questions.
