hi. I was given 4 duck eggs by a neighbour. (All different breeds)
I have been semi-naturally incubating them under one of my broody hens and the first duckling hatched perfectly 2 days ago.
Unfortunately the hen does not like this duckling one bit and luckily I caught the duckling in time before any harm was caused.

The second duckling pipped this morning and it appears to have hatched slightly early, but I have little experience with hatching ducks so I’m not entirely sure? The duck has been hatched for around 1 hour. It is currretly breathing absolutely fine. It’s eyes have not opened up yet either. He/she has kicked their feet a few times.
The trouble I am referring too is the umbilical chord/stomach that is protruding outside and still attached to the membrane/egg somehow.

Could someone with experience have a look at the picture provided as I am so worried about this little guy!!!

All my experiences so far with this type of problem have not been so good. All you can really do is leave him there and wait.

How did the duckling turn out? I have a duck egg that had been kicked out of the nest and looked like it had been pecked on and cracked. so I was going to throw it away but thought it would be interesting to see how developed it was. It was still alive and apparently hatching but it still hasn't fully anniversary the yolk...
