29
29 days ago I had a spontaneous idea to put a Pekin duck egg under one of my broody hens. I never candled it and had no idea if it was even fertile until 2 days ago (day 27). When I candled it I was so surprised and now it is day 29 and I don’t know what to do. There are no signs of pipping and I am trying my best to be patient. But there is a lot riding on this little egg, because 2 weeks ago mom and dad both died. It would be a miracle for this egg to hatch, it is already a miracle that it has gotten this far. I would just love to have a little piece of them back.

Any progress?

go ahead and candle the egg in
a dark room, look for veins and movement. Check the egg shell for bruising. Then put the egg back
I candled the egg and saw no movement or veins and there was a very slight bruise on the egg. I put it back and checked it again this morning and no change. The hen is still sitting on the egg and there is no odor. I want to be hopeful, but I am scared to admit that the duckling might not make it ☹️. Thank you for your advise. What do you think? Anymore feedback is much appreciated ♥️ I have never done this before.

That must be hard. :(
It isn't looking too good. Can you take a photo of the egg being candled? And a photo of the egg's external bruising? It may be that the baby has pipped in the wrong place, possibly causing a bleed from one of the veins in the process... Photos would definitely help.
Do you have an incubator on hand?
